Recently, John Carroll hosted its annual parents weekend which consisted of several events spanning Friday through Sunday. Friday night students and parents traveled to a nearby farm for an old-fashioned hayride and bonfire. Saturday night was marked by the very popular "Casino Night" which was held right here on Carroll's campus. Finally, the parents brunch was the highlight of Sunday. John Carroll's fall play, as well as a varsity football game, also served to entertain visiting parents.
Many great activities were offered during this weekend, yet my favorite event was the parents brunch on Sunday morning. Due to a productive weekend, involving shadowing at Southpointe Hospital and catching up on coursework, my parents only visited campus on Sunday. And, in my opinion, we experienced one of the best events of the weekend! Brunch is my favorite meal in the Schott Dining Hall and parents brunch is that much more satisfying! In addition to the routine breakfast fixings, the "Create-Your-Own-Omelet" station was in full swing. Furthermore, tasty pastries, bagels, and donuts were offered as well. Also, plenty of fairtrade coffee. There was so much to choose from that my mom and I each picked different items and split everything!
Our appetites were fully satisfied by the delicious food offered at the parents brunch, but we were also satisifed in a different sense. Parents brunch served as a great opportunity for my parents to experience John Carroll on the weekend, more specifically my favorite mealtime! Furthermore, my parents were able to meet Father Niehoff, as well as other faculty members that were mingling within the dining hall. Lastly, parents brunch served as the jumpstart to a tour of recent changes all over campus. After breakfast, my parents and I made our way to see the new beautifual Hamlin Quad as well as the Center for Digital Media within the library. My parents enjoyed seeing these changes to campus and anticipate returning for graduation weekend. At the same time, I had fun putting my tour guide skills to good use and spending time with my parents. Parents weekend 2010 was a definite success!
Until next time,
Meghan May
