Hello, my name is Ariel Johnson and I am a Senior at John Carroll. It is so strange to think that I have already made it through almost four years at Carroll. I remember pulling up to Murphy Hall in our rented Caravan and unloading way too many things into a less than spacious room. That year was the beginning of falling in love with Carroll and college.
Since this is my first blog of the year, I Just want to give you a little bit of a background of who I am and some of the things I am involved in on campus. I am currently in the Honors Program, Kappa Delta Sorority, VP Standards and Scholarship for the Panhellnic Council, Gospel Choir, Tour Guide and I am Senior Resident Assistant; I also nanny on the side. As you can see there is plenty to get involved in no matter what your talents and strengths are. My involvement on campus has been essential to my success at Carroll. It has allowed me to meet some of my closest friends and develop some of my strongest bonds with not only students but faculty and administration as well. Let’s just say, I have some sweet recommendations coming up as I am applying to law school!
All that is great, but what fun is college if you aren’t doing anything fun. This weekend was the first time I had a chance to go out with all of my friends at one time. It was Homecoming! I started off the weekend at the street fair on Saturday morning. This is an opportunity to get free food, win John Carroll merchandise and play around in inflatable blow up things like when you were ten at a local carnival. It was awesome. After all of that, I was exhausted. But what is Homecoming without a football game. As previously mentioned, I am an RA so my staff and I went to the game together. This isn’t anything out of the ordinary except one of my staff members was dressed like Hulk Hogan threatening to beat people up if they didn’t show enough school spirit. He would never hurt a fly, but he got the job done. I have never heard the crowd being so loud before. Another staff member was in a one piece blue and gold spandex suit doing pushups in the stands. It was definitely the most entertaining game I had ever been too and a fantastic Senior year Homecoming game (Oh and by the way, we killed Marietta College 28-14). To top off an already great day, the Homecoming dance was by far one of the best I have been to at John Carroll. It was at the Rock Hall of Fame this year, which I had never been to before. Being from Chicago, I am just starting to experience all of the cultural aspects Cleveland has to offer and I can say that I wish I had started earlier. But the dance was wonderful. It is always nice to dress up and hang with friends, dance a little bit and de-stress from the hectic rigor of school.
I hope all of you get a chance to visit Carroll. It is a beautiful campus and I am going to miss it so much next year. I will let you know how the law school thing shapes up. I take the LSAT October 9. Wish me luck and good luck to you in your college search.
Talk to you soon,
