Ride For Miles

I was able to work at the Office of Admissions this Saturday to welcome and guide prospective students. This Saturday was also the 'Ride For Miles' Biking Event at Dolan Science Center on our John Carroll campus. The Ride For Miles was held to honor the life and work of Miles Coburn, a JCU biology professor. The Ride began and ended at DolanScienceCenter on campus, so the campus was filled of bikers of all ages. It was pretty funny walking my tour through crowds and crowds of spandex but what was great is that the prospective students were able to see how John Carroll isn’t a college town, that it is a college in a community that work closely together. John Carroll prides itself on the service and leadership and having the Ride For Miles hosted on our campus was a great way to reinforce our message.

My very first post

I do not even know where to begin. It is great to return to campus to old friends and getting to know new ones. Exchanging stories of the summer- from summer jobs, internships, summer school, and trips all over the world. I, myself had an internship with NBC 5 Chicago with our very own John Carroll Alum Mary Ann Ahern. She is the political and religious reporter and gave me one unforgettable season of running around downtown- from the Mayor, Govenor and even opportunities with Senator Obama!
One sad point of the summer though was Mary Ann's dear friend and our proudest JCU alum Tim Russert passed away. For those of you who do not know him he was the host of the longest-running TV show "Meet The Press" on Sunday mornings. He is also a successful author of two books along with many other accomplishments. I encourage everyone to take the example he has set as a hard-working John Carroll student to heart. Everyone I encounter and discuss him with always say what a great man he was. I am proud to walk the same campus he did.
On a lighter note I have recently became a tour guide and joined the Carroll News....but those are topics for another blog on another day.......
